JWCC 2, Heartland 1: The Trail Blazers’ Adam Naim converted a penalty kick in the first overtime to knock off the nation’s No. 7 squad. Sam Aouti gave the Trail Blazers the lead with a goal early in the first half. Heartland scored the equalizer late in the first half.
Women’s Soccer
At John Wood Community College, Quincy
Heartland 3, JWCC 1: Scoreless at halftime, the No. 1 team in the nation erupted for three goals to earn the victory. Madi Lutz scored off an assist from Alexis Miranda for JWCC’s lone goal. Trail Blazers goalkeeper Maddie Hill with three saves in the first half to keep the game scoreless. The Trail Blazers fall to 2-3.
Women’s Volleyball
At Wisconsin-Parkside Tournament, Kenosha, Wis.
Quincy University wins twice: The Hawks finished the tournament with a 2-2 record after splitting a pair of matches Saturday. Quincy beat Wisconsin-Parkside 25-17, 25-18, 25-18 before losing to Minnesota-Duluth 25-18, 25-20, 24-26, 26-28, 15-13. Emma Winjbergen led QU with 12 kills against Parkside, while Mattie Norris and Emily Rehagen had 13 kills apiece against Duluth.
Boys Soccer
At Advance Physical Therapy Field, Quincy
Normal Community 1, Quincy Notre Dame 0: The Raiders get shut out for the first time this season and fall to 7-2-2.
At Veterans Field, Hannibal, Mo.
Hannibal Tournament: The Pirates picked up a pair of victories, beating Lutheran North 7-0 and Maplewood 9-2 to finish the tourney with a 2-1 record. The Pirates are 4-3 overall.
Girls Volleyball
At Lincoln, Ill.
Quincy Notre Dame wins Lincoln Tournament: The Raiders were forced to go three sets in both the semifinals and finals, but they outlasted Decatur St. Teresa and Normal West to win the championship and improve to 10-0. QND finished pool play with a 25-27, 25-20, 15-4 victory over Chatham Glenwood before beating St. Teresa 21-25, 25-16, 15-11 and Normal West 25-18, 15-25, 16-14.
Junior middle Abbey Schreacke finished with 39 kills in the tournament and was named to the all-tournament team. Sophomore outside hitter Emma Hoing had 23 kills and freshman setter Annie Eaton dished out 55 assists.
At Marshall, Mo.
Hannibal d. Marshall: The Pirates picked up a North Central Missouri Conference victory with a 25-10, 25-14, 25-4 sweep. Bella Falconer led Hannibal with nine kills and 12 digs, while Nora Hark had nine kills, two aces and a block and Ashlynn Hess had nine assists.
Girls Golf
At Ironwood Golf Course, Normal, Ill.
Normal Community Invitational: Quincy High School had three golfers finish among the top eight individuals and post a 315 team total to win the championship. Neuqua Valley shot a 319 and Normal U-High posted a 326. Saya Geisendorfer finished third with a 77, while Laci Novosel also shot a 77 but was sixth on a scorecard playoff. Sophia Gold was eighth with a 79.
Boys Golf
At Mattoon Country Club, Mattoon, Ill.
Mattoon Invitational: Quincy High School finished fifth out of 36 teams after posting a 327 at Mattoon Country Club. The Blue Devils opened the 36-hole event with a 313 on Friday at Meadowview Golf Course. Brady Walker shot an 80 Saturday and Luke Mettemeyer posted an 81. Mettemeyer finished the tournament at 158 and Walker at 160.
Quincy Notre Dame finished 20th with a 697. Konnor Craven led the Raiders with a 164 total.
Prep Cross Country
At Lincoln Park, Springfield, Ill.
Lee Halberg/Lanphier Invitational: Quincy High School senior Fiker Rosen was the only runner in the boys race to finish in less than 16 minutes, winning the individual title in 15 minutes, 56 seconds. The Blue Devils finished third in the 10-team event. QHS’s Ayden Triplett was 13th in 17:11.
On the girls side, Quincy’s Anna Schuering finished fourth in 19:17 as the Blue Devils were fourth as a team. The Blue Devils’ Alexandria Meyers was 15th in 20:51.
At Petersburg, Ill.
Petersburg PORTA Invitational: The Quincy Notre Dame girls captured the team title with 39 points. Petersburg PORTA was second with 55 points. The Raiders’ Teresa Drotar finished second individually in 21:33.8. Abigail Genenbacher was sixth in 22:06.4.
On the boys side, QND finished second in the team standings with 42 points. Petersburg PORTA won the title with 35 points. Joe Warning finished fifth individually for the Raiders in 17:39.7
