Prep Cross Country

At Linn, Mo.

Missouri Class 1 District 3: Marion County freshman Levi Wright took fifth place in the boys race to advance to next week’s state meet. He finished the race in 18:20. Freshman Porter Britt finished ninth in 19:45. The Mustangs finished fifth in the team standings with 136 points. Hermitage won the title with 30 points.

Senior Delaney Straus placed fourth in the girls meet with a time of 22:30. Riley Donath, Tristen Holt and Olivia Wood finished 31st, 32nd and 33rd. Marion County took fifth with a team score of 98 points. Glasgow won the title with 52 points.

At Linn, Mo.

Missouri Class 2 District 3: The Monroe City girls cross country team placed third on Saturday and earned a bid to the state meet. Emmalee Williams placed fourth in 21:10, while Ella Hays finished 17th (22:53) and Audri Youngblood finished 25th (23:14). Mark Twain took seventh and Highland placed ninth. Hermann was the race winner with 27 points. Clark County’s Grace Buschling placed second with a time of 20:28.

Mark Twain finished second in the boys race with 128 points, 23 behind champion Linn. Freshman Sam Northcutt was 12th with a time of 18:24. Will Owen was 18th (18:44) and Brandon Fullenwider was 25th (19:00). Two Monroe City runners qualified for the state meet with Kabott Harlan placing 23rd (18:53) and Jackson Wheeler placing 29th (19:03). Highland’s best finisher was Gage Rudd, who finished in 21:42.

At Washington, Mo.

Missouri Class 4 District 3: Three Hannibal boys earned spots at the state meet next Friday at Gans Creek Recreational Area in Columbia after competing at Big Driver Golf Course on Saturday. Cameron Nichols was 15th with a time of 18:27, Xavier Damotte was 18th with a time of 18:35 and Eli Hess was 28th with a time of 18:46. The Pirates placed fifth with 124 points out of 12 teams, just missing out qualifying for state as a team.

Freshman Ava Bonvillian finished 46th in the girls race with a time of 25:03.

At St. Peters, Mo.

Hannibal 5, Warrenton 0: The Pirates opened district play with a shutout in the quarterfinals. Freshman Colton Dryden scored in the game’s eighth inning to put Hannibal ahead. Other goals were scored by Alex Friday, Drew Porter, Ashlin Sharkey and Treyton Hobart. Goalkeeper Parker Terrill saved a penalty kick to preserve his 11th shutout of the season. Hannibal (17-7-1) will play Fort Zumwalt East at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the semifinals.

Men’s College Soccer

At Poulton Stadium, Canton, Mo.

Missouri Valley 12, Culver-Stockton 1: C-SC ended its season by being routed by the 10th-ranked Vikings Saturday night at Poulton Stadium. The Vikings, the defending NAIA national champions, tallied eight goals in the first half. C-SC’s lone bright spot came in the 72nd minute when Tuckker Johnson scored his first goal of the season and the second of his career on a penalty kick. The Wildcats finish with a 4-13 record and a 2-10 mark in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.

Women’s College Volleyball

At Atchison, Kan.

Benedictine 3, Culver-Stockton 1: The Wildcats finished their 2021 road schedule with a 25-18, 25-18, 16-25, 25-13 loss Saturday afternoon. C-SC, 9-20 and 5-13 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, has one match remaining at home Tuesday against Clarke. Madison McClain led the Wildcats with 12 kills and Taylor Coley had nine. Ali Scott had 10 block assists, while Heleine Filipe had seven block assists. Maddy Logan recorded 19 set assists. Kyla Ellis had 11 digs.
