At Monroe City, Mo.

97th annual Monroe City Tournament

Monroe City 77, Highland 36: The top-seeded Panthers won their own tournament for the fourth consecutive year, outscoring the second-seeded Cougars 43-15 in the first half. Monroe City made five 3-pointers as part of a 23-point second quarter and used the large advantage to play its entire bench in the fourth quarter.

Joshua Talton led Monroe City with 21 points, going 6 of 8 from the free-throw line and knocking down three treys. Josiah Talton and Deion White each added 10 points. Cameron Bringer led Highland with 14 points.

At Mendon, Ill.

Lewistown 62, Unity 53: The Indians stayed unbeaten with the road victory. Vincent Maglioacchetti led the Mustangs with 20 points, including knocking down six 3-pointers.

At the Panther Den, East Moline, Ill.

United Township 42, Quincy High School 41: The Blue Devils went 3 of 12 from the free-throw and allowed a seven-point lead in the fourth quarter slip away to suffer the Western Big 6 Conference loss in overtime. After Quincy’s Taylor Fohey split a pair of free throws with less than a minute to play, UT’s Tia Lewis hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 39 and force overtime. Fohey led the Blue Devils with 12 points, while Asia Seangmany added 11.

At Carthage, Ill.

Illini West 59, Abingdon/Avon 30: The Chargers outscored the Commandos 33-13 in the second half by allowing just two field goals in the fourth quarter. Caydee Kirkham led Illini West with 27 points, scoring 18 points in the second half and finishing with three 3-pointers. Hallie Ray added eight points as the Chargers improved to 8-1.

At Monroe City, Mo.

97th annual Monroe City Tournament

South Shelby 58, Palmyra 46: Kaylee Gaines made a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter as the Lady Birds outscored the Panthers 20-7 and never trailed again in the championship game. The Lady Birds went on a 17-0 run to erase a four-point deficit. 

Men’s Basketball

At Student Activity Center, Quincy

John Wood Community College 73, Marshalltown 46: Brandon Kracht scored all 23 of his points in the first half, making five 3-pointers, as the Trail Blazers built a 50-22 lead by halftime in the December Classic. Ja’Veon Taylor finished with 14 points, 13 rebounds and four assists as JWCC improved to 9-4 overall.

Richmond-Burton Invitational: Quincy High School finished fourth in the 16-team event with two individual champions. Kayden Garrett at 170 pounds and Owen Uppinghouse at 160 pounds each won their weight class. Bryor Newbold finished second and Gavin Schumacher took fourth.
