At Weber Field, St. Louis

Quincy University 9, Maryville 1: The Hawks ended a season-opening 14-game road trip with one of the best performances to date and won their first series of the season in the process. Senior right-hander Jay Hammel allowed one run and struck out nine over six innings and turned it over to a flawless bullpen. Brett Repking, Cruz Meier and Alex Pribyl combined to allow one hit and one walk over the final three innings. Pribyl struck out all three batters he faced in the ninth inning. A five-run third inning, highlighted by a two-run double from Dayson Croes and an RBI double from Austin Simpson. Croes finished 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs, while Lance Logsdon and Zach Parks each had two hits for the Hawks, who are 8-6.

At Olsen Stadium, Atchison, Kan.

Benedictine 13, Culver-Stockton College 6: A six-run second inning and a five-run sixth inning gave the Ravens the advantage in the first game of the Heart of America Athletic Conference twinbill. Dax Flowerree allowed 11 runs — eight earned — in five innings to take the loss. Collin Hall went 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs, and Ryan Teuscher went 2 for 3 for C-SC.

Benedictine 12, Culver-Stockton 11: After scoring three runs in the top of the sixth inning, the Wildcats led 11-8, but they surrendered four runs in the bottom of the frame to get swept in the four-game series. Jordan Scott, Ronald Applewhite and Teuscher had two hits apiece for C-SC, which fell to 4-11 overall and 0-4 in the Heart. The Ravens took advantage of four walks and four hit batters to score 12 runs on just eight hits.

At Future Champion Sports Complex, Jacksonville, Ill.

Triopia 10, Illini West 9: Trailing 7-5 going to the seventh inning, the Chargers scored four runs in the top of the frame to grab the lead. The Trojans responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning, scoring the tying run on a two-out triple and the winning run on a passed ball. Trayton Anders went 2 for 4 with two triples and two RBIs for Illini West, while Drake Mudd went 2 for 3 with a triple, Bradyn Robertson went 2 for 4 with a double and Tanner Freeman had two hits and two RBIs.

College softball

At the Lou Brock Complex, St. Charles, Mo.

Lindenwood 2, Quincy University 1: Allyson Maynard’s solo home run in the sixth inning erased a one-run deficit for the Hawks and forced extra innings. In the top of the 10th inning, a leadoff double led to Megan Clark’s RBI sacrifice fly that plated the winning run for the Lions. Jayle Jennings went 4 for 5 with a double for the Hawks, while Kaelyn Conger allowed one earned run over 9.1 innings with three strikeouts and no walks.

Lindenwood 3, Quincy University 1: The Hawks’ offense was stymied until the bottom of the seventh when Isabella Shields and Ashley Poore led off with back-to-back singles. One out later, Mykah Hurley singled through the left side of the infield to plate a run. The rally ended when Jennings hit into a game-ending double play.
