At Ferd Niemann Jr. Memorial Ballfield, Quincy

Quincy Notre Dame 14, Rushville-Industry 4: The Raiders used back-to-back four-run innings to break a 3-3 tie and secure the six-inning victory. After allowing the Rockets to tie the game in the top of the third, the Raiders loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the inning by sandwiching a hit batter between two walks. Two runs scored on an error and a walk before QND’s Ben Kasparie delivered a two-run single. In the fourth, the Raiders opened with three consecutive singles and received RBI knocks from Harry Oden and Michael Stupavsky. Kasparie finished 2 for 4 with three RBIs, while Dalton Miller went 2 for 3 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Evan Kenning and Brady Kindhart each threw three innings with Kindhart striking out four.

At Pittsfield, Ill.

Quincy High School 9, Pittsfield 6: The Blue Devils scored three runs in the first inning, four more in the third and led 9-1 before the Saukees put together a seventh-inning rally. After Connor Schwindeler walked with one out in the first and Luke Mettemeyer singled, Grayson Cook jacked a three-run homer to right field to give the Blue Devils the lead. In the third, Cook had the third of four straight singles and drove in a run to kickstart the outburst. Noah Harbin and Kenny Taylor also had RBI singles in the frame. Mettemeyer, Cook and Taylor each had two hits for Quincy. Nate Scranton hit a two-run home run and Luke Saxe had a two-run double in the seventh for the Saukees. Brady Walker allowed one run over six innings with four strikeouts to earn the victory for the Blue Devils.

At Mount Sterling, Ill.

Triopia 5, Brown County 2: The Trojans scored three runs in the fifth inning and capitalized on six errors overall by the Hornets to earn a pivotal Western Illinois Valley Conference victory. Will Groesch went 3 for 4 for the Hornets, while Gabe Blakeley went 2 for 4 with a home run and Colby Wort added two hits. Blakeley allowed three earned runs over 6 ⅓ innings, striking out eight and walking one. The Hornets are 9-1 overall.

At Mendon, Ill.

Palmyra 10, Unity 5: Tied at five going to the seventh inning, the Panthers exploded for five runs to earn their first victory of the season. An error and a wild pitch led to Jon Lundberg driving in the go-ahead run with a single. A wild pitch and a groundout plated two more runs, and Adam Goodwin delivered a two-run single to punctuate the rally. Palmyra reliever Nolyn Richards retired the side in order in the bottom of the inning to grab the victory. Landyn Smith and Goodwin had two hits apiece for the Panthers, while Aiden Obert and Carter Kasparie each went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI for the Mustangs. Unity’s Cody Shaffer hit a solo home run.

At Payson, Ill.

Payson Seymour 11, West Hancock 7: The Indians scored six runs in the second inning and four more in the third to build an insurmountable lead. Ty Barker went 2 for 4 with a double and five RBIs for Payson. After three straight run-scoring singles and a walk to keep the bases loaded, Barker ripped a three-run double to highlight the second inning. He added a two-out, two-run single in the third inning. The Indians had just eight hits, but took advantage of three walks, two hit batters, two wild pitches and two errors.

At the Backyard, Quincy

Quincy Notre Dame 13, Pittsfield 3: The Raiders collected 13 hits and scored in five of the six innings to take the first game of a doubleheader. Caitlin Bunte went 3 for 3 with two runs scored for the Raiders, while Abbey Schreacke was 2 for 3 with a double. Lindsey Fischer had a double, an RBI and two walks. Eryn Cornwell allowed three runs and three hits while striking out eight and walking three to earn the victory. E Henry drove in two runs with a double for the Saukees.

Quincy Notre Dame 7, Pittsfield 6: After the Saukees rallied for three runs in the sixth and seventh innings, the Raiders were forced to oplate a run in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings and scored the winning run in the eighth. After Alyssa Ley reached on an error leading off the eighth, Caitlin Bunte singled and Eryn Cornwell doubled to drive in the winning run. In the seventh, Lindsey Fischer doubled with one out and Logan Pieper doubled with two outs to plate the tying run. Constable had an RBI double as part of the Saukees’ three-run seventh inning, and E Henry had an RBI single in the three-run sixth. Fischer finished 3 for 3 for QND, while Pittsfield had just two hits.

At Mount Sterling, Ill.

Brown County 15, Triopia 0: A 10-run third inning helped the Hornets finish off the Western Illinois Valley Conference victory. Savannah Rogers went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs for Brown County, while Cortni Law went 2 for 2 with a double, three runs scored and two RBIs and Katey Flynn went 2 for 3 with two runs scored. Taryn Moorman allowed two hits over four innings with four strikeouts as the Hornets improved to 11-0.

At Mendon, Ill.

Western 6, Unity 5: The Wildcats scored five runs in the first and third innings combined and survived a seventh-inning rally to keep the Mustangs at bay. Trailing 6-3, Unity’s Caroline Knox forced in a run when an error on her flyball allowed her to reach safely. Kylee Barry followed with an RBI single to score Knox, but the rally ended with a flyball to right field. Kylin McQuay had a double and three RBIs for the Wildcats, while Taylor Goudschaal went 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs for the Mustangs.

At LaHarpe, Ill.

Illini West 7, Lewistown 6: Rachel Hames went 2 for 3 with two RBIs as the Chargers grabbed the victory. Madalyn Boyer earned the victory in the circle, striking out nine.

Girls track and field

At Van Dyke Field, Galesburg, Ill.

Silver Streak Invitational: Quincy High School won three distance races in the 32nd running of the event with Anna Schuering capturing the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 19.4 seconds and the 1,600 run in 5:15.20. Alexandria Meyers won the 3,200 run in 12:13.8, and Ava Winking tied for third in the pole vault, clearing 2.2 meters.

At Quincy Country Club, Quincy

Quincy University Invitational: Culver-Stockton College’s Connor Bross shoot a 2-under 69 and the Wildcats’ Cade Coon shot an even-par 71 to boost C-SC into the first-round lead with a 291 team total. William Woods sits in second at 296 and Quincy University is fifth at 305. Ryan Kruse led the Hawks with an even-par 71.

Women’s golf

At Quincy Country Club, Quincy

Quincy University Invitational:QU’s Hannah McGuire is tied for third after posting a 78 and the Hawks sit in third place after the first round with a 334 total. Lewis leads the field at 320. Culver-Stockton College is fifth at 423.
