At Camp Point, Ill.

Central 60, Beardstown 28: Isaac Genenbacher ripped off a 31-yard touchdown run on his first touch and helped power the Panthers to the Western Illinois Valley Conference North Division championship with a 4-1 league mark. Garrett Williams scored on 39- and 27-yard runs to give the Panthers an edge, and his 8-yard scoring run with 44.5 seconds remaining in the first half gave Central the lead for good. Central outscored Beardstown 32-8 in the second half. Williams added a 73-yard scoring jaunt and Genenbacher scored on a 64-yard run. The Panthers, ranked third in Class 1A, are 6-1 overall.

At Monroe City, Mo.

Monroe City 58, Macon 38: A 90-yard scoring drive to open the game and a 70-yard touchdown run by Joshua Talton gave the Panthers control in the Clarence Cannon Conference matchup, but it turned into a shootout. Monroe City, ranked seventh in Class 1, led 28-6 at halftime, but kept trading touchdowns with the Tigers in the second half. Waylon DeGrave caught a 91-yard scoring pass from Kyle Hays, while Chapman caught a 62-yard touchdown pass and hauled in a 72-yard pass to set up another Monroe City touchdown. The Panthers are 6-1 overall.

At Center, Mo.

Mark Twain 38, Montgomery County 8: After a Landon Moss touchdown run gave the Tigers the lead in the first quarter, they hit the Warriors with a couple of haymakers. Dawson Talbot caught a 66-yard pass from Connor Eckler before Lakoda Preston ripped off a 93-yard touchdown run as part of a 32-point first half in Eastern Missouri Conferene play. Moss finished with three touchdown runs as the Tigers improved to 6-1. 

At Pittsfield, Ill.

Athens 52, Pittsfield 6: The Saukees’ Weston McAllister answered the Warriors’ opening touchdown with a short scoring run to tie the game at 6 with 3:27 remaining in the first quarter. However, Athens returned the ensuing kick 90 yards for a touchdown and rattled off 46 straight points to win the Sangamo Conference showdown. Pittsfield falls to 3-4, while Athens improves to 6-1.

Girls Tennis

At Moline, Ill.

Western Big 6 Championships: Quincy High School sits in second place with 10 points heading into Saturday’s semifinals. Moline leads the team standings with 14 points. The Hayes sisters both advanced to the semifinals in singles. Lily Hayes, seeded third, won both of her matches 6-0, 6-0, while Pheobe Hayes opened with a 6-0, 6-0 victory and then upset fourth-seeded Karenna Zemek of Moline 7-5, 6-4. Both of Quincy’s doubles entries have been eliminated.

Men’s Soccer

At Kiwanis Stadium, Springfield, Ill.

Quincy University 1, Illinois-Springfield 1: Without four starters due to injuries and red-card suspensions, the Hawks withstood the Prairie Stars’ second-half barrage and earned a tie in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. Kamou Harris gave the Hawks the lead in the 13th minute with an unassisted goal. The Prairie Stars tied the game in the 73rd minute when Browel Some converted a penalty kick. Illinois-Springfield outshot Quincy 25-11 overall and 12-2 on goal. In the second half and two 10-minute overtimes, the Prairie Stars piled up 18 shots. The Hawks improved to 4-5-2 overall and 2-4-2 in the GLVC.

Women’s Soccer

At Kiwanis Stadium, Springfield, Ill.

Illinois-Springfield 2, Quincy University 1: A penalty kick in the 87th minute and the game-winning goal in the 98th minute allowed the Prairie Stars to erase a one-goal deficit and pick up the Great Lakes Valley Conference victory. The Hawks grabbed the lead in the 14th minute when Jessica Felix scored off a Lexi Porchia assist, but the Prairie Stars piled up 12 shots in the second half and the only two shots in overtime. Illinois-Springfield had just two shots in the first half. The Hawks are 3-7-0 overall and 2-6-0 in the GLVC.

Women’s Volleyball

At Hyland Arena, St. Charles, Mo.

Lindenwood d. Quincy University: The Hawks led the first set 17-9 before watching the Lions rip off an 18-8 run that set the tone for a 27-25, 25-16, 26-24 victory in Great Lakes Valley Conference action. Quincy hit just .091 in the match and had a negative attack percentage in the first set. Emme Wijnbergen led the Hawks with nine kills, while America Galvan had 16 digs. The Hawks fell to 7-10 overall and 4-5 in the GLVC.

At Charles Field House, Canton, Mo.

Park University d. Culver-Stockton College: The fifth-ranked Pirates made quick work of the Heart of America Athletic Conference match with a 25-16, 25-10, 25-17 victory. Heleine Felipe led the Wildcats with seven kills and eight digs. C-SC is 7-13 overall and 3-6 in the Heart.
