At Mendon, Ill.

Unity 7, Southeastern 6: The Mustangs’ Aidan Obert belted a three-run walk-off home run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Unity trailed 5-1 heading into the sixth when it put together a three-run rally, featuring a two-run single from Maynard. After the Suns scored once in the top of the seventh, McClelland walked to lead off the bottom of the frame, and two outs later, Cody Shaffer singled. Obert homered to left field on the second pitch he saw. Danny Stephens and Ramsey Fry each had two hits for the Suns, while Bryan Muegge doubled for the Mustangs and Obert threw two scoreless innings of relief.

At Mount Sterling, Ill.

Brown County 6, Havana 1: The Hornets scored four times in the fifth inning to take control and improve to 12-1. The Hornets scored those four fifth-inning runs with one out as Sam Carr doubled to plate the first run, Gabe Blakeley followed with a two-run single and Mason Henry capped it with an RBI double. Henry finished 2 for 3 with two doubles and Carr went 2 for 3. Colby Wort struck out nine and allowed one run over seven innings to earn the victory.

At Beardstown, Ill.

Beardstown 4, Illini West 3: The Tigers broke a 3-3 with a single run in the fifth inning and held on. Ethan James belted a two-run home run as part of the Chargers’ three-run fourth inning, while Bradyn Robertson doubled for one of Illini West’s five hits. Drew Dooley struck out five and allowed three earned runs over seven innings.

At Mount Sterling, Ill.

Brown County 6, Calhoun 1: Karsyn Moorman jacked a two-run home run in the first inning and Cortni Law belted a two-run homer in the third inning to propel the Hornets to victory over a state-ranked opponent. Moorman finished 3 for 3 with a double and three RBIs, while Law went 2 for 2. Katey Flynn was 3 for 3 with three runs scored. Taryn Moorman scattered nine hits, allowed one run and struck out seven for Brown County, which is now 14-0.

At Barry, Ill.

Liberty 3, Western 2: The Eagles scored twice in the top of the sixth to take the lead and then retired the Wildcats’ final six batters in a row. Anna Wheelock’s RBI double in the sixth tied the game, and Reece Vance drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly. Wheelock finished 2 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs, while Ally Lefringhouse and Tiffanie Will had two hits apiece. Jade Blair struck out four and scattered nine hits to earn the victory.

Boys tennis

At Rock Island, Ill.

Quincy High School 9, Rock Island 0: The Blue Devils swept all nine matches in straight sets with Jason Derian at No. 3 singles and Allen Oakley at No. 6 singles each losing just one game. Gavin Wang at No. 1 singles and Will Hanlin at No. 2 singles both won 6-2, 6-2. Wang and Derian won their No. 1 doubles match 6-0, 6-2.

College baseball

At QU Stadium, Quincy

Indianapolis 3, Quincy University 2: Hawks reliever Cruz Meier walked the leadoff batter in the seventh inning and hit the next batter, starting a rally in which the Greyhounds scored once to take the lead and win the opener of the Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader. QU’s Jay Hammel allowed two runs and six hits over six innings with five strikeouts and two walks. Gino D’Alessio homered in the first inning and Dayson Croes homered in the fifth as the Hawks were held to just four hits..

Indianapolis 3, Quincy University 0: The Greyhounds’ Brandon DeWitt held the Hawks to four hits as they were shut out for the first time this season. Indianapolis used a two-run single in the first inning and scored off a throwing error in the second inning to plate all the runs it would need. Griffin Kirn suffered the loss, striking out four and allowing six hits over six innings, while Dayson Croes went 2 for 3. The Hawks are 18-15 overall and 9-6 in the GLVC.

At Nichols Field, Canton, Mo.

Culver-Stockton College 5, Grand View 4: Despite hitting the first batter he faced, the Wildcats’ Jordan Isham recorded back-to-back flyouts to preserve the victory after the Vikings had scored twice in the top of the seventh. Andrew Fay went 3 for 4 with a double, a triple and three RBIs as the Wildcats scored single runs in five of the first six innings of the Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader.

Culver-Stockton College 4, Grand View 2: A three-run fifth inning gave the Wildcats the lead for good. A walk, a single, an error and a two-run homer by Ronald Applewhite — all with two outs — allowed the Wildcats to rally from a 2-1 deficit in the nightcap of the Heart twinbill. Stefan Stockwell and Jordan Isham worked a combined 4 ⅓ innings of scoreless relief with Isham earning his sixth save. The Wildcats are 13-23 overall and 7-15 in the Heart.
