QUINCY — In need of a jolt of confidence with the start of the postseason looming, the Quincy High School girls soccer team found one with a stingy defensive effort.

Senior goalkeeper Ashley Walbring made 11 saves and Avery Morrison’s first-half goal stood as the only score in the Blue Devils’ 1-0 victory over Jefferson City (Mo.) Helias on Saturday at Flinn Stadium.

Morrison scored in the 17th minute as the Blue Devils (6-11-1) ended a six-game winless streak.

Quincy is seeded seventh in its sub-sectional and will open play in the Class 3A Granite City Regional on May 20 against fourth-seeded Granite City. The Blue Devils close the regular season Tuesday against Chatham Glenwood at Illinois College in Jacksonville.
