The Rundown: QND wins at Great River Classic, two homers carry Canton, Illini West cruises

The fall slate of postseason events is underway, but that doesn’t mean the action is simmering down. Here is a look at the highlights from Thursday’s action:

• Cole Henkenmeier scored off a Colin Kurk assist in the first half as the Quincy Notre Dame boys soccer team beat Normal U-High 2-0 in the opening game of the 18th annual Great River Classic in Burlington, Iowa. Leo Cann scored an unassisted goal in the second half for the Raiders, who face Wheaton Academy at 1:45 p.m.

• Kinsey Biggerstaff belted a two-run home run and Macie Fisher had a two-run, inside-the-park home run as the Canton softball team beat Monroe City 7-2. Madison Gorrell went 3 for 4 with two RBIs as the Tigers improved to 14-5.

• The Quincy Notre Dame volleyball team cruised to a 25-19, 25-4 victory over Western. Annie Eaton dished out 27 assists and Abbey Schreacke had 13 kills as the Raiders improved to 23-2.

• The Illini West volleyball team powered past South Fulton 25-4, 25-8. Josie Bryan led the Chargers with 11 kills and 10 assists, while Reagan Reed had nine kills and 10 assists. Madalyn Boyer had 13 service points and four aces.

• The Quincy High School volleyball team picked up a 25-23, 25-16 victory at Sterling in Western Big 6 Conference play.

• The Palmyra girls golf team finished second out of 13 teams at the Brookfield Invitational with a 421 team score. Candra King finished eighth individually with a 100 and Mallory Sublette was 12th with a 103.
