QUINCY — Those who survived Saturday’s sweltering temperatures and conditions in order to reach the finals of the doubles portion of the Quincy Open City Championships were rewarded with near perfect weather on championship Sunday.

The threat of rain contributed to that.

Cloudy conditions looming over the Greeman Tennis Center in Reservoir Park dropped temperatures into the low 80s and mixed with a gentle breeze to provide an atmosphere fit for crowning a string of champions.

Cindy Crist and Jamie Steinkamp took advantage.

The top-seeded team in the women’s open division withstood a challenge from Palmyra sisters Molly and Maura Gottman to win 6-4, 6-4. Crist and Steinkamp won all three of their matches in straight sets, beating Kendra Maples and Emily Griesbaum 6-4, 6-1 in the quarterfinals and Audra Cain and Amelia Willing 6-1, 6-2 in the semifinals.

In the men’s open division, the field was limited by a perfect storm of vacations, injuries and previous engagements, leaving just four players. To make it work, they switched partners in a round-robin style format, leading to Sunday’s showdown between the top-seeded team Zach Willing and Ethan Arns and the veteran duo of Todd Willing and Chris Leonard.

Arns and Zach Willing won their second tournament championship this month, beating Leonard and Todd Willing 6-1, 6-3. Arns and Willing also won the title at the Alton Open.

In the women’s open consolation bracket, Lily and Phoebe Hayes beat Ava Jacobsen and Aly Young 4-6, 6-1, 10-4.

In the men’s 3.5 division, Steve Damm and Randy Davis beat Arrow Crist and Lanny Wang 6-3, 4-6, 10-1 in the finals. In the men’s 4.0 division, Drew Koester and Will Meckes beat Barney Bier and Pat Costigan 4-6, 6-1, 10-5 in the championship match.
