SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The Quincy Gems’ pitching staff gave up double-digit runs for the fourth time in 11 games in a 12-1 loss to the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes on Saturday night in a Prospect League game at Robin Roberts Field.

The Gems (5-6), whose 7.50 team earned run average is second-worst in the 16-team league, have lost three straight games. They are tied with Clinton for second place in the Great River Division, two games behind Normal.

Springfield scored twice in the first inning, then added three more runs in the third inning against starter and losing pitcher Gage Yost. The Lucky Horseshoes scored three runs without a hit in the fifth against reliever Stefan Stockwell, who hit three batters, walked one and threw a wild pitch that allowed two runs to score.

The Lucky Horseshoes then scored four times in the sixth against reliever Noah Harbin.

Quincy’s only run came in the sixth inning when Jonathan Latham homered. The Gems were limited to six hits, and Lucky Horseshoes pitchers recorded 11 strikeouts in seven innings.
