Stewart represents Gems on Prospect League all-star team

Quincy Gems first baseman Zack Stewart

QUINCY — The Quincy Gems placed one player on the Prospect League’s Western Conference all-stars following their first playoff appearance since 2016.

First baseman Zack Stewart, who is a freshman at Missouri State University, represented the Gems on the 15-player team. Stewart played in 36 games, hitting .319 with six home runs and 35 RBIs. He finished his summer on a five-game hitting streak.

Alton River Dragons outfielder Eddie King Jr. was named the Mike Schmidt Player of the Year after hitting a league-best 15 home runs and driving in 49 runs. Danville’s Josh Leerssen was named the Starting Pitcher of the Year and the Dans’ Landon Tomkins was the Galen Wood Fireman of the Year.

Danville’s Eric Coleman, who led the Dans to a 40-17 regular-season record, was named the Manager of the Year.
