QUINCY — An opponent the Quincy High School boys basketball team missed out on seeing during the Collinsville Prairie Farms Holiday Classic could be the one that stands between the Blue Devils and a regional championship.

Meanwhile, Liberty and Southeastern are on a collision course for an epic showdown — if both can survive.

The Illinois High School Association released its seeds for the boys basketball sub-sectionals Thursday with very few surprises among area teams.

QHS (21-5) received the No. 3 seed in its sub-sectional of the Class 4A Collinsville Sectional. Collinsville, which beat Quincy in the third-place game in the holiday tournament, received the No. 1 seed. The Kahoks are 20-5 and have won 12 consecutive games, beginning with the 49-34 victory over the Blue Devils.

O’Fallon (21-6) lost to Decatur MacArthur in the championship game of the Classic and has split two games with Collinsville this season, losing 58-46 Tuesday night. Quincy and O’Fallon will be paired in the same regional, either at Alton or Granite City.

The postseason pairings are scheduled to be released Friday.

In Class 2A, Quincy Notre Dame drew the No. 3 seed in a sub-sectional of the Stanford Olympia Sectional. Petersburg PORTA, which is a regional host, drew the No. 1 seed, while Pleasant Plains is the No. 2. QND and Pleasant Plains will be sent to the Beardstown Regional.

Illini West is seventh and Pittsfield ninth in the same sub-sectional.

In Class 1A, Liberty and Southeastern are on different paths to the same destination — the Jacksonville Super-sectional.

Liberty, ranked fifth in the latest Class 1A state poll with a 22-5 record, is the top seed in its sub-sectional of the North Greene Sectional. Triopia and Jacksonville are the No. 2 and 3 seeds with Payson Seymour checking in at No. 6. Griggsville-Perry and Pawnee are the regional sites.

In the Abingdon-Avon Sectional, Southeastern (22-4) drew the top seed in its sub-sectional with Brown County seeded second and Central seeded third. Illini Central and Bushnell-Prairie City are the regional hosts.
