O’FALLON, Ill. — First came the lightning. Then came the thunder.

Two Quincy High School athletes earned their spot in the field for the Class 3A boys state track and field championships by sprinting faster than nearly everyone before thunderstorms and tornado warnings forced the O’Fallon Sectional to be suspended.

The final four events will be contested Friday at Chatham Glenwood High School.

QHS senior sprinter Jettason Rose qualified in two events, winning the 200-meter dash in 21.88 seconds and finishing second in the 100 dash in 10.89. Normal West’s Charlie Nolan won the 100 in 10.86 seconds.

Blue Devils senior Reid Savage finished second in the 110 hurdles to earn his spot in the state field, finishing in 15.22. Normal Community’s Tae Atkinson won the event in 15.12 seconds.

Quincy senior Fiker Rosen set a new school record in the 3,200 run, finishing in 9 minutes, 34.32 seconds. However, he placed third and missed qualifying for the state meet by 1.31 seconds.
