Reyerson, Howard, Harbin combine on four-hitter as Gems win easily at home
QUINCY — Three Quincy pitchers combined to give up one unearned run and just four hits in nine innings as the Gems took command early in a 9-1 victory over the Burlington Bees on Sunday night in a Prospect League game at QU-Stadium.
The Gems (3-2) are one game behind first-place Normal (4-1) in the Great River Division.
Ryan Reyerson, a left-hander from Iowa Western Community College, was impressive in his debut, needing only 59 pitches to get through five innings. He allowed just two hits and didn’t allow a baserunner to reach third base. He retired 10 consecutive batters at one point, and he struck out six Bees.
Jax Howard, a right-hander from Lee (Tenn.) University, pitched the next three innings. He allowed the Bees’ only run, which was unearned. He allowed two hits and struck out four.
Noah Harbin, a right-hander from Quincy High School, wrapped up, allowing a walk in a scoreless ninth inning.
The Gems scored a run in the first, then added four more in the second. Logan Voth contributed an RBI double, Andrew Fay singled in a run, and Gabe Swanson drive in a pair of runs with a double.
Matthew Batts hit a solo homer in the fourth, and Jordan Duncan hit a sacrifice fly to score Tye Wood in the sixth. Lucas Loos hit an RBI double and Jonathan Latham scored on a passed ball in the eighth.
Fay and Batts had three hits each. Loos and Swansen had two hits each, and Wood reached base four times with a hit and three walks.
