Raiders show composure, willingness to battle in knocking off Normal U-High in MLK Challenge
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Greg Altmix debated taking a timeout as Normal U-High inched closer and closer to erasing the Quincy Notre Dame boys basketball team’s lead in the third quarter Monday afternoon.
“But I’m like, ‘What do I tell them? Make your shots?’” the QND coach said. “We were getting good shots. They just have to fall. They were running the offense and getting good looks. So I waited and it worked out.
“They just kept at it and kept at it. Then all of a sudden we started making the shots they were supposed to. And they kept their composure.”
It led to the Raiders pulling away in the fourth quarter for a 62-52 victory in the MLK Challenge at Bloomington Central Catholic.
“We took care of the ball and made our free throws down the stretch,” Altmix said.
Jace Allensworth led the Raiders with 17 points as they improved to 10-6 ahead of Friday’s matchup with Chicago Simeon in the seventh Quincy Shootout.
“They kept working, kept battling, kept playing today,” Altmix said. “They just kept coming, which is a great sign.”
