JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — In the wake of a loss to No. 1-ranked Brimfield on the road Wednesday night, Quincy Notre Dame girls basketball coach Eric Orne reiterated another tough test awaited with Friday’s trip to Jefferson City Helias.

He probably never envisioned how tough it would be to get off the bus.

The Raiders, ranked No. 1 in Class 2A, made just one of their first 10 shots, trailed by 11 points in the first quarter and were forced to quickly regroup. They did, going 7 of 10 from the field in the second quarter and digging in defensively to score a 45-35 victory in the regular-season finale.

QND’s victory snapped an 11-game win streak for Helias, ranked 10th in the Missouri Class 4 state poll.

The Raiders (24-3) outscored the Crusaders 15-4 over the final 5:30 of the first half and finished the second quarter on an 8-0 run. Sage Stratton’s 3-pointer at the buzzer gave QND a 24-23 halftime lead.

It was the Raiders’ first lead of the game.

QND forced Helias to commit six turnovers on its first eight possessions of the second half and pushed its advantage to as many as 10 points in the third quarter.

Abbey Schreacke led the Raiders with 27 points and went 13 of 13 from the free-throw line. She went 7 of 7 from the line in the fourth quarter.
