QUINCY — The Quincy Notre Dame boys soccer team’s spot in the Chicagoland Soccer’s state poll isn’t simply a nod to the program’s reputation and tradition.

It’s respect for the season the Raiders enjoyed in the spring and the depth of the roster that returns.

QND is ranked 12th, one of only two downstate teams in the top 15. Belleville Althoff is ranked 10th. They are the only two small schools in the top 15.

Peoria Notre Dame, which QND beat 4-2 on the road Monday in the season opener, is ranked 21st. Three teams Quincy High School will or could potentially face are in the top 40 — No. 28 Moline, No. 32 Edwardsville and No. 34 Collinsville.

The Raiders play their second straight road game to open the season at Beardstown on Tuesday before holding the home opener at 3 p.m. Friday against Ladue Horton Watkins in the opening game of the QND Tournament at Advance Physical Therapy Field.
