BEARDSTOWN, Ill. — The Quincy Notre Dame baseball team didn’t record a hit until the fifth batter of the first inning Friday against Carrollton in the opening game of the Beardstown Tiger Showcase and had only two hits in the inning thereafter.

The Raiders still scored 12 runs in the frame.

Capitalizing on walks, hit batters and errors, QND cruised to a 19-0, three-inning victory in which it had just eight hits. The Raiders walked 12 times and had four batters hit by pitches.

In the top of the first inning, Jake Schisler led off with a walk, Tucker Tollerton was hit by a pitch and Dalton Miller walked. Brady Kindhart drove in a run with a groundout, and Jack Linenfelser drove in a run with a single through the right side of the infield.

Nolan Robb followed with a three-run home run to left field to make it 5-0. The final seven runs in the inning were scored with two outs and courtesy just one hit — Kindhart’s two-run double after the three previous batters all walked.

Schisler went 2 for 2 with four runs scored, Linenfelser and Robb each had two hits and Kindhart drove in four runs. Abram Wiewel earned the victory, allowing two hits over three innings with three strikeouts and no walks.

QND (12-1) is scheduled to face Illini West at 10 a.m. Saturday and an opponent to be determined at 1 p.m.

Illini West opened the Showcase with a 7-4 victory over Carrollton, scoring three times in both the third and fourth innings and getting six shutout innings from Reece Shoup.

The Chargers (7-4) scored three times with two outs in the third as Shawn Watkins Jr. started the rally with a single up the middle. He went to third on an error, and Shoup walked to put runners at the corners. Drake Mudd walked to load the bases.

A passed ball allowed one run to score, and Nick Johnson smacked a two-run double to right field.

In the fourth, Lucas Finch singled, Carter Chapin was hit by a pitch and Wyatt Link walked to load the bases with no outs. Colby Robertson doubled to center field to clear the bases and make it a 6-0 lead. A passed ball allowed another run to score in the fifth.

The Hawks scored three times in the seventh, but an infield popout ended the game with a runner on base.

Robertson, Johnson and Finch each had two hits for the Chargers, while Shoup struck out 10, walked five and allowed four hits.
