Raiders bounce back from first loss to sweep pair of blowouts with big offensive effort
QUINCY — The Quincy Notre Dame softball team rebounded in a big way.
Following Friday’s loss at Chatham Glenwood — the Raiders’ first loss of the season — QND swept a pair of games Saturday at The Backyard by beating Petersburg PORTA 16-2 and Jacksonville 14-1 amid cold, windy conditions.
Against PORTA, the Raiders (13-1) allowed two runs in the top of the first inning but answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning and just kept scoring.
Caitlin Bunte led off the bottom of the first with a single, went to third on Abbey Schreacke’s double and scored on a wild pitch. Schreacke scored on Brooke Boden’s sacrifice fly. The Raiders scored four times in the second with Payton Stupavsky delivering an RBI double and Schreacke an RBI single.
In the third, the Raiders piled up 10 with Stupavsky collecting a two-run double and Laela Hernandez-Jones contributing two run-scoring hits in the frame.
Addi Zanger and Hernandez-Jones both went 3 for 3 with three runs scored as part of the Raiders’ 15-hit attack. Bunte, Schreacke and Stupavsky each had two hits.
Against Jacksonville, Carlee Gilker went 3 for 3 with a double and three RBIs, Morgan Zanger had two doubles and Boden drove in three runs as the Raiders collected 14 hits with seven extra-base knocks.
Bunte led off the three-run first with a double and scored on Schreacke’s triple. Alyssa Ley’s RBI single and Gilker’s RBI double capped the frame. Bunte and Schreacke had RBI singles in the second with Boden delivering a run-scoring double and Gilker a run-scoring single.
Boden had a two-run single in the third and Gilker an RBI double.
