TOLONO, Ill. — The Quincy Notre Dame softball team tasted adversity for the first time this season Saturday, and the response should bolster the Raiders.

After losing 10-5 to Tolono Unity in the first of two games in a multi-team slam — it was the Raiders’ first loss of the season — QND came back to beat Teutopolis 13-4.

A nine-run inning got the Raiders rolling against the Wooden Shoes.

QND (7-1) led 2-0 after the first inning when Caitlin Bunte and Morgan Zanger led off with back-to-back singles, both advanced on a wild pitch, and both eventually scored on groundouts. In the second, Zanger, Brooke Boden and Alyssa Ley delivered consecutive run-scoring singles and Payton Stupavsky added a two-run single.

Zanger and Lauren Miller had two hits apiece, while Mara Becks drove in three runs.

Bunte earned the victory in the circle, striking out 11 and walking two.

Against Tolono Unity, the Rockets led 4-2 before erupting for six runs in the bottom of the sixth. They tagged Boden for 15 hits, including four extra-base knocks. She struck out seven and walked only one.

Bunte, Zanger and Miller had two hits apiece for QND, which scored three times in the top of the seventh but couldn’t sustain the rally.
