Raiders, Blue Devils open play in QND/Quincy Recycle Tournament with victories

QUINCY — The Quincy Notre Dame boys soccer team was forced to show some wherewithal to survive its opening game in the QND/Quincy Recycle Tournament at Advance Physical Therapy Field.

Trailing Ladue Horton Watkins 2-1 after Rams junior forward Dailyn Tate scored twice, the Raiders tied the game 11 minutes before halftime and scored four unanswered goals to post a 5-2 victory Friday afternoon.

QND senior forward Tanner Anderson gave the Raiders a 1-0 lead when he pounced on the rebound of a stopped penalty kick and tucked it into the open side of the net. Tate then scored twice before Anderson converted a PK to knot the game at 2.

One minute before halftime, Raiders freshman forward Cole Henkenmeier settled a pass from Anderson and ripped a shot into the right side netting for a 3-2 halftime lead.

Jacob Vincent scored with 12 minutes remaining in regulation to double QND’s lead, and Anderson completed his second consecutive hat trick byb converting a free kick with five minutes to play.

Across town at Flinn Stadium, the Quincy High School boys soccer team opened tournament play with a 7-0 victory over Canton, Mo.

Carter Venvertloh and Evan Sohn each scored twice, while Boen Brockmiller, Evan Altman and Biruk Rosen each scored a goal. Josh Stupavsky, Adrian Sommers, Brockmiller and Venvertloh provided assists.

Each team will play twice Saturday at their respective home fields.

QND faces United Township at 8:30 a.m. and Jacksonville at 2:15 p.m., while QHS takes on Jacksonville at 8:30 a.m. and Ladue at 1 p.m.

United Township beat Jacksonville 3-1 in Friday’s other game.
