Quintero’s goal in second overtime lifts Raiders to road victory over Helias
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — After playing 90 scoreless minutes, the Quincy Notre Dame girls soccer team needed just 30 seconds to end the drought.
Lia Quintero scored off a rebound a half-minute into the second overtime Wednesday, lifting the Raiders to a 1-0 victory over Jefferson City Helias at the Crusader Athletic Complex. It is the Raiders’ third road victory in their first four games.
QND (4-0) had the only two shots on goal in the first 10-minute overtime and started the second extra period with sophomore midfielder Sage Stratton drilling a shot Helias keeper Abbi Tesreau deflected off the crossbar. The rebound came to Quintero, who tucked the shot in the net for the game winner.
“It was a great game by both teams,” QND coach Mark Longo said. “They had some great chances and so did we.”
The Crusaders had a 10-6 edge in shots in the first half and a 14-10 advantage at the end of regulation. However, QND had all four shots in overtime.
The Raiders will play three games this weekend in the QHS Tournament, beginning at 4 p.m. Friday at Flinn Stadium. QND will place twice Saturday at Advance Physical Therapy Field with games scheduled for 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
