QUINCY — The games will be played.

Officials from both Quincy High School and Quincy Notre Dame confirmed the football games scheduled to be played in the Gem City on Friday night will go on as scheduled despite the ongoing water issues caused by the break in the main at Quincy’s water treatment plant.

QHS is scheduled to play Rock Island at Flinn Stadium in the Western Big 6 Conference opener with a freshman game to start at 5 p.m. and the varsity to follow at 7 p.m.

According to QHS coach Rick Little, plans are in place to start the varsity game as close to 7 p.m. as possible. Bathrooms at the facility will not be operational, so the school is bringing in portable toilets for use.

The school also is stocking up on ice and bottled water to accommodate both teams. Bottled drinks will be available at the concession stands.

QND is slated to face Springfield Southeast in its first Central State Eight Conference game at 7 p.m. at Advance Physical Therapy Field. According to assistant athletic director Eric Orne, nothing has changed other than bringing in some portable toilets and making sure there is enough ice and water for the teams.

Bottled drinks will be available at the concession stands at QND as well.
