QUINCY — A 23-point second quarter swung the momentum in favor of the Math, Civics and Sciences Charter of Philadelphia, and the Mighty Elephants never relented in dispatching Iowa City West 71-51 on Saturday in the Quincy Shootout at Blue Devil Gym.

Trent Middleton’s second-quarter outburst sparked the swing as he scored 14 points in a six-minute span. He finished with a game-high 25 points. Aasim Burton added 14 points, scoring eight in the third quarter.

Pete Moe, the burly power forward, tried to keep Iowa City West in the game by drawing fouls and sinking free throws. Moe went 9 of 10 from the field and matched Middleton with 25 points. However, the Trojans got 13 points from Christian Barnes and 15 points from the rest of the roster.
