Quincy Catholic seventh grade boys win regional basketball title at Pleasant Plains

PLEASANT PLAINS, Ill. — The Quincy Catholic seventh grade boys basketball team captured the Illinois Elementary School Association Class 3A regional championship on Thursday night, defeating Pleasant Plains 31-22 at Pleasant Plains Middle School. 

Quincy Catholic led 15-13 at halftime, then scored the first seven points of the third quarter. Kaden Marth hit a 3-pointer to extend the lead to 27-16 entering the fourth quarter. The Cardinals scored the first six points of the fourth quarter but could get no closer.

The victory sends the Crusaders (16-5) to the Class 3A sectional on Monday at Warrensburg-Latham Middle School against Athens (22-4), which defeated Williamsville 40-26 in the regional at Divernon.

Rowan Stegeman led the Crusaders with 10 points, and Tripp Flesch added eight.
