Quality pitching not enough for QND baseball team to avoid dropping pair of games
TOLONO, Ill. — The Quincy Notre Dame baseball team’s pitching staff gave it a chance to win both games Saturday in the Tolono Unity Slam, but the Raiders’ offense couldn’t find that breakthrough moment.
QND fell 1-0 to Tolono Unity and 4-1 to Teutopolis.
Raiders junior right-hander Abram Wiewel tossed a two-hitter against Tolono Unity, allowing an unearned run in the sixth inning. He struck out six and walked five. In the bottom of the sixth, the Rockets got a leadoff single, a wild pitch, a sacrifice bunt and an error to produce the game’s only run.
QND (6-10) was limited to four singles and had just two runners in scoring position the entire game.
Against Teuropolis, the Raiders trailed 4-0 before putting a rally together in the seventh. Cale Linenfelser singled with two outs, Logan Sutton was hit by a pitch and Oliver Triplett reached on an infield single to load the bases. Wiewel’s single to left field brought in one run, but the rally ended there.
Wiewel and Triplett each had two of the Raiders’ seven hits, which were all singles. Three QND pitchers limited Teutopolis to two earned runs.
