PALATINE, Ill. — Daniel Dyer and Alex Strong made a name for themselves as they walked off the high school tennis stage.

Quincy Notre Dame’s No. 1 doubles team was one of the last 16 duos remaining in the Class 1A boys state tennis tournament bracket. They earned all-state honors after winning their first match Friday morning before being eliminated one victory shy of the consolation quarterfinals.

Dyer and Strong, both seniors, went 2-1 on the first day of action and followed it up by beating Elmhurst Timothy Christian’s Elliott Tandy and Timo Kacian 6-2, 4-6 (10-2) on Friday morning at Rolling Meadows High School.

The QND tandem then lost 6-1, 6-3 to Mattoon’s Dalton Short and Will Pullen to finish the event with a 3-2 record.

This is the second year in a row Dyer and Strong finished in the top 16 at the state tournament, finishing their careers with a 6-4 mark in state tournament play.
