ST. JOSEPH, Ill. — The response didn’t surprise Quincy Notre Dame boys basketball coach Kevin Meyer and it shouldn’t have surprised anyone.

When the Raiders teetered, Tolono Unity went for the kill.

The Rockets bolted to an 8-2 lead at the start of Saturday’s game in the Christie Clinic Shootout at St. Joseph-Odgen High School, outscored the Raiders 21-10 in the second quarter and rolled to a 58-35 victory.

Tolono Unity is ranked second in Class 2A with a 16-0 record.

“They were sharks in the water,” Meyer said. “When there’s blood in the water, you keep flying around and causing havoc. That’s what they did.”

QND (8-7) couldn’t alleviate the pressure.

“They got us playing further away from the basket and we got out of attack mode,” Meyer said. “We got frazzled.”

Aden Genenbacher led the Raiders with 12 points and Gavin Doellman came off the bench to score nine points. No one else scored more than three points.
