QND, QHS girls soccer players pile up all-sectional honors from coaches association

QUINCY — Several Quincy Notre Dame and Quincy High School girls soccer players earned postseason awards from the Illinois HIgh School Soccer Coaches Association.

The Raiders, who won a Class 1A sectional championship this spring, had three players receive all-sectional honors — senior forward Makayla Patton, senior midfielder Sage Stratton and sophomore center back Sierra Thomas.

Blue Devils junior forward Avery Morrison also earned all-sectional honors.

Patton and Stratton helped the Raiders win 63 games the past four seasons, including 15 this spring and a Class 1A state championship their freshman season. Stratton is a three-time all-sectional honoree, while Patton, who scored 98 goals in her career, is a two-time all-sectional recipient.

Thomas earned all-sectional honorable mention as a freshman.

Morrison, who earned first-team All-Western Big 6 Conference honors, is a first-time honoree.

QHS sophomore forward Leah Knudson and junior defender Maddy Kuhl received all-sectional honorable mention.

The IHSSCA divides the state into 14 sections. The Quincy schools are in Section 7, which includes the Springfield area schools.

QHS goalkeeper Ashley Walbring and QND senior midfielder Liesel Vincent both received academic all-sectional honors. Walbring and QND junior midfielder Lilly Schuette received all-sectional sportsmanship awards.

QHS’s Chad Struck was named the Assistant Coach of the Year in Section 7.
