QJHS wrestling team finishes second at Class AA sectional, sends six Comets to state tourney

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. — The Quincy Junior High School wrestling team crowned one individual champion at last Saturday’s Class AA sectional, finished second as a team and is sending six wrestlers to the state tournament.

QJHS eighth grader Brylin Hill won the 145-pound weight class, beating Normal Parkside eighth grader Dayson Williams in the title match. He helped the Comets amass 200 team points to finish second behind Bloomington Junior High School, which had 255.5 points.

Five Comets took second in their respective weight classes — Griffin Finch at 80 pounds, Clayton McClelland at 100, Derik Lohmeyer at 105, Ja’Carveon Walton at 126 and Eli Zanger at 275.

The Illinois Elementary School Association state tournament takes place Friday and Saturday at the Convocation Center on the Northern Illinois University campus in DeKalb.
