QHS’s Rose sprints to pair of victories in sectional preview at Collinsville

COLLINSVILLE, Ill. — Jett Rose showed he’s ready to run with the best.

The Quincy High School senior sprinter got a glimpse of what the Class 3A O’Fallon Sectional field will be like during Saturday’s Collinsville Invitational, and he put himself in prime position to be chased.

Rose won the 100-meter dash in 10.89 seconds, edging O’Fallon’s Tamarion Bivines by a tenth of a second. Rose also won the 200 dash in 21.94 seconds, beating Columbia’s Rand Matthews by .34 seconds.

His two titles helped the Blue Devils finish fifth in the 26-team event with 42 points. Edwardsville won the team title with 105 points.

The Blue Devils’ Fiker Rosen finished second in the 3,200 run in 9:44.65, about a second behind Columbia’s Ethan Hogan. Quincy’s Drew Tipton-Hicks finished third in the 400 dash in 52.58. Eric McClelland was fifth in the 800 run in 2:01.59. 

LaMarrio Rodgers took sixth in the shot put with a toss of 14.97 meters.
