MOLINE, Ill. — The Moline girls tennis team threw everything it had at Quincy High School’s Anika Reddy and still couldn’t stop her championship drive.

Reddy won the singles championship of the Class 2A Moline Sectional, catapulting herself to the state tournament following a remarkable run to the title as the No. 3 seed.

Having secured her semifinal spot and state tournament berth with Friday’s 6-0, 6-1 victory over Rock Island’s Leah Kitterman, Reddy returned Saturday to win two matches and embrace the momentum that comes with it.

First, Reddy beat second-seeded Karenna Zernek of Moline 6-1, 6-2. In the championship match, Reddy beat Moline’s Calla Graham 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.

Reddy will play in the Class 2A state tournament beginning Thursday in the greater Chicagoland area. The state tournament headquarters are in Arlington Heights.
