QUINCY — History occurred Wednesday on the Gem City gridiron.

The release of the Associated Press state football rankings resulted in both the Quincy High School and Quincy Notre Dame football teams being ranked in their respective classes at the same time for the first time ever.

The Blue Devils (2-0) are ranked ninth in the Class 7A poll, while the Raiders (1-1) are No. 5 in Class 2A. QHS beat QND 40-12 in the season opener at Advance Physical Therapy Field and finds itself in the state poll for the second straight season, having reached No. 5 last season.

QND is ranked for the first time since reaching No. 5 in Class 4A in 2021.

Camp Point Central also is ranked, checking in at No. 3 in Class 1A. The Panthers (1-1) sit behind Calhoun and Lena-Winslow. Calhoun beat Central 14-13 last Friday night in Hardin, Ill., ending the reigning Class 1A state champion’s 15-game win streak.
