QUINCY — With the Nos. 2 and 3 doubles matches having wrapped up and the Quincy High School girls tennis team winning both, twin sisters Lily and Phoebe Hayes understood they could put the Blue Devils in prime position to win Monday’s dual match if they could survive.

Their resiliency took the pressure off in singles play.

The Hayes sisters rallied to force a tiebreaker at No. 1 doubles against Quincy Notre Dame’s Evie Schuetz and Addi Zanger and won the match 8-7 (7-5), propelling QHS to a 6-3 victory in the first of two crosstown duals this season at the Greeman Tennis Center in Reservoir Park.

Audra Cain and Amelia Willing won the No. 2 doubles match, beating the Raiders’ Aly Young and Ava Jacobsen 8-5. At No. 3, QHS freshmen Anika Reddy and Mary Dodd beat Alyssa Ley and Morgan Zanger 8-3.

In singles play, Lily Hayes knocked off Schuetz at No. 1 with a 6-4, 6-2 victory. The Raiders won the next three matches, including two in tiebreakers. Young beat Phoebe Hayes 6-4, 5-7 (10-8) at No. 2, Addi Zanger beat Cain 7-6, 6-4 at No. 3, and Ley beat Willing 2-6, 6-3 (12-10) at No. 4.

Reddy and Dodd swept the Nos. 5 and 6 singles match with 6-0, 6-0 finals.

The teams will square off again October 3 at Reservoir Park.
