QUINCY — Mark McDowell did what he needed to do in order to get the job done.

He adjusted.

To kick off the pep rally welcoming home the Quincy Notre Dame baseball team following its third-place finish at the Class 2A state tournament, the QND principal planned to begin his opening remarks by playing the Notre Dame fight song. The music system in The Pit wasn’t accommodating, so McDowell pulled the song up on his smartphone, held the microphone next to it and let it play.

It got the job done, much the way the Raiders did all season long.

QND finished 36-2, setting a single-season record for victories and bringing home the third state trophy in program history. The other historical marks this team set were substantial, which made the celebration all the more special.
