QUINCY — The more comfortable the Quincy Notre Dame volleyball team becomes with its faster-paced attack, the more dangerous the Raiders become.
That’s not a good sign for those set to challenge the Raiders the remainder of the regular-season schedule.
QND ran its season-opening win streak to seven consecutive matches Monday night, dispatching Jacksonville 25-17, 25-18 at The Pit. The Raiders have yet to lose a set, although they realize tougher competition lies ahead, starting this Saturday with matches against Bloomington Central Catholic and Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin.
There are also only two home matches in the next three weeks, meaning the Raiders are going to be battle-tested come the start of October. For now, there is a lot to be encouraged by.
“Very encourgaed,” first-year QND coach Danielle White said. “The girls are getting better every game. They take a lot of advice the coaching staff is giving, and they execute so beautifully. It’s honestly fun to watch.”
Their ability to adapt to a new offense has gone relatively smooth, too.
“I know the girls were very hesitant to go that at first, but they have seen it work and they’re like, ‘What’s next? What can we run next?'” White said. “Watching them take their abilities and expand them beyond what they were capable is so fun to watch.
“We have three girls in the front-row rotation that can hit from anywhere. Not a lot of coaches are blessed to have that.”
