BELLEVILLE, Ill. — The Quincy High School baseball team made strides. One week after suffering a 9-0 loss to Belleville West, the Blue Devils squared off with the Maroons again Wednesday afternoon and suffered a 5-2 loss after allowing four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Quincy led 2-1 going to the bottom of the fifth after scoring single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. In the fourth, Owen Zanger walked with one out and Blake Bunch followed with a single. After an infield popout for the second out of the inning, Alex Logan singled up the middle to plate a run.

In the fifth, after a single and a fielder’s choice put Joe Schroeder on first base, the senior infielder stole second base and scored with two outs when the Belleville West shortstop committed an error on Zanger’s grounder.

However, five of the first six batters in the bottom of the fifth for Belleville West collected hits, leading to the four-run rally. Quincy got a runner on base in both the sixth and seventh innings, but couldn’t create any other havoc.
