QUINCY — Jeremiah Talton’s breakaway, one-handed dunk in the third quarter last Friday night against Sterling added the punctuation mark to another blowout by the Quincy High School boys basketball team.

Yet, it was his alley-oop dunk in the second quarter that kickstarted the rout.

The Blue Devils led 26-17 when the Golden Warriors called a timeout with 5 minutes, 47 seconds remaining in the first half. On Quincy’s previous possession, Talton buried a 3-pointer from the right corner — a record-tying 147th career trey — and Sterling needed to reset its defense.

The timeout allowed the Blue Devils to set up a play the Golden Warriors couldn’t stop.

After throwing a pass to the wing, Quincy point guard Ralph Wires got the ball back and drove between two defenders to the high post and threw an alley-oop to Talton cutting along the baseline from the left corner. He elevated and threw down a two-handed dunk with authority.

It was part of a 14-point quarter that led to a 31-point effort by the 6-foot-6 senior swingman.

The alley-oop dunk is this week’s Liquor Booth Shot of the Game.
