QUINCY — The Quincy High School baseball team got the Western Big 6 Conference portion of its schedule off with a bang.

A big bang.

Leading Rock Island 2-0 in the first game of last Saturday’s doubleheader, QHS senior third baseman Grayson Cook added the knockout blow by hitting a grand slam to left field in the fifth inning as the Blue Devils picked up a 6-1 victory. They swept the Rocks with a 7-1 victory in the nightcap.

Logan Eaton led off the fifth for Quincy with a walk, Connor Schwindeler reached on an error and Luke Mettemeyer walked before Cook crushed the first pitch he saw.

Cook finished 2 for 3 with two runs scored, and he enjoyed another four-RBI game Monday in a victory at Pittsfield, which extended the Blue Devils’ win streak to four straight games.

Cook’s grand slam is this week’s Liquor Booth Shot of the Game.
