QUINCY — First, the heat. Then, the rain. Finally, Lindbergh.

Those three proved unbeatable during the Quincy Recycle/QND Tournament at Advance Physical Therapy Field.

The Quincy Notre Dame boys soccer team’s early-season event was scheduled to begin Thursday night and continue Friday afternoon, but the soaring heat forced the schedule to be altered and condensed. So two games were played late Friday night and four games scheduled for Saturday.

The rain that came in a couple of different waves Saturday delayed play at least two hours.

And then there was Lindbergh, the St. Louis area school that beat Quincy High School 5-2 on Friday night and capped the tournament with a 3-1 victory over QND. In between, a 2-1 victory over Jacksonville gave the Flyers the title.

The Raiders went 1-1 in the tourney, beating Ladue Horton Watkins 4-3 after winning a penalty kick shootout.

A goal off a Brody Jones corner kick gave the Raiders the early lead against Ladue, but the Rams answered with a pair of goals in the first half. Shortly before halftime, QND senior forward Leo Cann made a run up the left side and buried a shot to tie the game at 2.

In the second half, Cann gave the Raiders a 3-2 advantage as a long throw-in was headed into the box by Mason Monteyne where Cann won it in the air and drove a header into the side of the net. Ladue tied the game late in the half, forcing the PK shootout.

QND senior goalkeeper Max Frericks made two saves in the shootout, including one to cement a 5-4 edge and the victory.

Saturday, Lindbergh scored twice in the first half and midway through the second half to go up 3-0. QND scored its goal when Rylan Fischer finished a Brody Jones corner kick.

Meanwhile, QHS suffered a 5-2 loss to Lindbergh on Friday and a 3-2 setback to Ladue on Saturday. Josh Stupavsky and Kade Parkhill scored against Lindbergh, while Justin Dreyer and Nolan Dede had goals against Ladue. Evan Sohn had the assist on Debe’s goal.
