COLLINSVILLE, Ill. — Carter Venvertloh gave the Quincy High School boys soccer team a chance for an epic rally.

It just never materialized.

Venvertloh, the senior forward, scored with 4:40 remaining in regulation to cut into top-seeded Collinsville’s three-goal lead in Wednesday night’s Class 3A regional semifinal at Kahok Stadium. However, the Blue Devils couldn’t muster another score as their season ended with a 3-1 loss.

The Kahoks, who led 3-0 in the first half, will face Edwardsville in the regional final. The Blue Devils bow out with a 12-9-1 record.

A quick counter led to Collinsville’s first goal. The Kahoks took possession in the middle of the field and sent it to Jimmy Crowder, who played a ball through the Blue Devils’ defense to Trey Peterson, who timed his run perfectly to stay onside and go in one-on-one with QHS goalkeeper Lucas Shepherd.

Peterson beat Shepherd to his right, scoring with 30:20 remaining in the first half.

With less than 15 minutes remaining in the first half, a Collinsville corner kick pinballed around in the box before landing at the feet of the Kahoks’ Adam Reiniger, who placed a left-footed shot inside the left post for the 2-0 lead.

With a little less than 10 minutes remaining in the half, Collinsville drove a restart into the box that Quincy failed to clear. With Shepherd off the line, Peterson touched the ball into an open space and watched it roll into the goal for the 3-0 advantage.
