QUINCY — The heart of the Quincy Notre Dame baseball team’s lineup got the ball rolling when the Raiders needed to pad their lead.

Evan Kenning and Nolan Robb opened the bottom of the fourth inning Wednesday with back-to-back singles, which led to a three-run rally and catapulted the Raiders to a 5-2 victory over Beardstown at Ferd Niemann Jr. Memorial Ballfield.

With two runners on base, Gavin Doellman reached on an error to load the bases, and Kenning scored on Nick Spears’ fielder’s choice ground ball. After a Noah Lunt walk, Cale Linenfelser ripped a line drive that eluded the third baseman and plated two more runs.

After Beardstown pulled within 4-2, QND’s Logan Sutton singled to center field with one out in the sixth to score Lunt with an insurance run.

The Tigers got two runners on base in the seventh inning, but Robb came on in relief and got the final two outs to earn the save. The Raiders (9-11) are scheduled to travel to Camp Point Central on Friday for a West Central Conference game.
