CHARLESTON, Ill. — Jettason Rose fulfilled the promise of his name.

The Quincy High School sprinter became the ninth individual state track and field champion in school history Saturday, jetting past the field to win the 200-meter dash at the Class 3A state championships at Eastern Illinois University’s O’Brien Stadium.

Rose finished in 22.04 seconds, as Minooka’s Tyler Colwell (22.16) was second and Homewood-Flossmoor’s Robert Scott III (22.17) was third.

Colwell also was the runner-up in the 100 dash, a race Rose finished sixth to double his medal count on the final day of the three-day event.

Rose is Quincy’s first state champion since Jordan Johnson won back-to-back titles in the discus in 2018-19. By medaling in both sprint events, Rose finishes his career with three state medals — he was sixth in the 200 in 2021 — and is tied for the third most medals in school history.

In Class 1A, Liberty’s Cannen Wolf set a school record in the 3,200 run, finishing sixth in 9:35.50. He also was 11th in the 1,600 run in 4:41.50. The Eagles’ Alex Giradin finished fourth in the 200 dash in 22.85.

West Hancock’s Miles Sheppard was third in the 3,200 in 9:30.93 and ninth in the 1,600 in 4:28.67.

Central’s Ezra Thompson finished seventh in the long jump, leaping 6.47 meters. He followed that with a 10th-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 12.76 meters.

The Panthers’ 4×200 relay team of Aveory Lamanske, Wyatt Schemerhorn, Garret Williams and Sterling Stotts took ninth in 1:34.15 to medal after being seeded 24th coming into the preliminaries.
