Hoots score early and often to hand Doggy Paddlers road loss
O’FALLON, Mo. — The Quincy Doggy Paddlers were forced to play chase Saturday night and they could never fully catch up.
The O’Fallon Hoots scored four runs in the first inning and nine runs in the first four innings to earn an 11-7 Prospect League victory at CarShield Field.
The Hoots’ Michael Politte led off the bottom of the first inning with a home run against Doggy Paddlers starter Jason Schmierer, while two walks, an error and a wild pitch contributed to O’Fallon scoring three more runs in the frame.
The Doggy Paddlers answered with Andrew Gould belting a three-run home run in the top of the second. The Hoots scored twice in the bottom of the inning before Skylar Graham got a run back for the Doggy Paddlers with a solo home run in the third inning.
Quincy took a 7-6 lead in the top of the fourth as Wandel Campana doubled with two outs, Tommy Harrison walked and Jake Merda followed with a three-run home run. O’Fallon came right back with three runs in the bottom of the inning as Baden Hackworth belted a three-run homer.
The Hoots tacked on two runs in the seventh on Nolan Jaworowski’s two-run double.
The Doggy Paddlers (8-11) face the Alton River Dragons on the road at 5:35 p.m. Sunday.
