QUINCY — Lily and Phoebe Hayes lived up to the expectations. Anika Reddy and Mary Dodd exceeded them.

Both of those things have been happening throughout the girls tennis season.

The Hayes sisters, who were the No. 1-seeded doubles team for the Western Big 6 Conference tournament, rallied after losing the first set of the title match to Geneseo’s second-seeded of Tara Bomleny and Danielle Beach and earned a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory Saturday at the Greeman Tennis Center in Reservoir Park.

Meanwhile, Reddy and Dodd, both QHS freshmen, went from unseeded to winning the third-place match with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Geneseo’s Aubrey Brumbaugh and Tessa Wilebski.

Those final two victories enabled Quincy to tie Moline for the team championship with 15 points apiece.

The Hayes sisters won their semifinal 6-0, 6-3 against Brumbaugh and Wilebski, while the Maple Leafs’ Bomleny and Beach beat Reddy and Dodd 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) in the other semifinal/

In singles play, Moline’s top-seeded Karenna Zemek won the title with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over second-seeded Kate Rector of Rock Island Alleman. Quincy did not have a singles player in Saturday’s finals.
