Gems open second half of season with loss by 10-run rule at home
QUINCY — The Quincy Gems closed the first half of the Prospect League season with a loss by 10 runs, and they opened the second half with another loss by 10 runs.
The Gems were limited to four hits in an 11-1 loss Wednesday night to the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp at QU Stadium.
Hayden Moore provided the only run for Quincy when he doubled in the sixth inning, moved to third on a sacrifice fly by Lucas Loos and scored on a wild pitch.
Bennett Stice was the losing pitcher for the Gems, allowing seven runs in five innings. Stefan Stockwell gave up a pinch-hit grand slam to Bobby Cavin in the top of the seventh inning.
