Gems give up 15 runs in season-opening loss at Burlington
BURLINGTON, Iowa — A.J. Henkle hit for the cycle and drove in six runs as the Burlington Bees defeated the Quincy Gems 15-5 in the Prospect League opener for both teams on Wednesday night.
Henkle had an RBI double in the first inning, a single in the fourth, a run-scoring triple in the fifth and a grand slam to left field off Gems reliever Kolby Kiser in the seventh inning to end the game by the 10-run rule.
Andrew Fay and Otto Jones had two hits each for the Gems. Jones drove in three runs with a two-run homer in the third inning and a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning. Fay drove in the other runs with a two-run single in the second inning.
Bennett Stice was the starting pitcher and took the loss after allowing seven hits and five runs in one inning of work.
