Game Night Guide: Road trips, tournament titles and wrestling nirvana on tap for this weekend

QUINCY — Tournament titles up for grabs, a conference lead at stake and a bevy of grappling. How’s that for a full weekend slate?

That’s only doable if Mother Nature cooperates.

With several Missouri schools rescheduling their Friday night contests for Thursday night to avoid any issues with the forecasted snowfall, the weekend prep basketball slate took a hit, at least as far as Friday night goes.

Saturday’s schedule is jam-packed, weather permitting.

The Quincy High School boys basketball team is supposed to make two road trips — to Galesburg’s John Thiel Gym on Friday and to Lincoln’s Roy S. Anderson Gym on Saturday. The Blue Devils will wrap up the first half of the Western Big 6 Conference slate against the Silver Streaks with the opportunity to go 7-0 and hold first place all alone.

The game against Lincoln marks the second time the two legendary programs have met this season. The Blue Devils beat the Railsplitters 33-30 in the quarterfinals of the Collinsville Prairie Farms Holiday Classic.

The Quincy Notre Dame boys have Friday night off, but they venture to the Bloomington Central Catholic Shootout for a pair of games Saturday against Williamsville and BCC. On Monday, the Raiders head back to Bloomington to face Farmington on the final day of the shootout.

Liberty will play for the championship of the Winchester Invitational Tournament on Saturday night and could possibly face Brown County, which is playing in Friday’s semifinals.

On the girls side, state-ranked Illini West will face state-ranked Unity for the third time in 17 days in Saturday’s championship of the CSE Classic. And Quincy Notre Dame travels to Rock Island to face a big-school program for the second straight weekend.

And don’t forget the Quincy Invitational wrestling tournament is taking place Friday and Saturday at the QHS gym. The Blue Devils’ Kayden Garrett is eyeing a championship, while Palmyra’s Collin Arch looks to keep his undefeated high school record intact.
