Doggy Paddlers unable to slow Hoots’ offense, suffer another mercy-rule loss
O’FALLON, Mo. — For the third straight game, the Quincy Doggy Paddlers snared the lead but couldn’t maintain it.
It resulted in the third mercy-rule loss in the last four games.
The Doggy Paddlers scored two runs in the top of the first inning Sunday night and led 3-1 going to the bottom of the second, but the O’Fallon Hoots’ offense was relentless in securing a 15-5 Prospect League victory at CarShield Field.
The Hoots collected 16 hits against three Doggy Paddlers pitchers and capitalized on nine walks in scoring in five of their six at-bats.
Quincy’s Cayman Huntsman allowed eight runs and 11 hits in three innings to suffer the loss. Jimmy Koza had two hits, including a double, to lead the Doggy Paddlers’ attack.
The Doggy Paddlers (14-30, 5-16 second half) have lost 12 games in a row. They will be back at QU Stadium on Tuesday to face the Clinton LumberKings. The teams will complete a suspended game before playing their regularly scheduled game at 6:30 p.m.
